Baseball made its' debut as an official event in 1992, although was previously held as a demonstration sport in 1912 (winners: United States), 1936 (winners: World Champions USA), 1956 (winners: U.S. Far East Command USA), 1964 (winners: United States), 1984 (winners: Japan) & 1988 (winners: United States). In addition a Finnish variant was demonstrated in 1952 (winners: Finland).

Although not listed in modern sources, early sources include this event on the programme of the 1900 & 1904 Games. In 1900 United States "A" beat United States "B" 19-9. The result of the 1904 event is unknown.
Basketball was first held in conjunction with the 1904 Games, although the tournament is now widely regarded as unofficial. The sport was formally added to the Olympic programme in 1936. In 1904, 1960 and 1976 (women) medals were decided on a round robin basis. For more detailed results see the APBR website.

Association Football (Soccer) was scheduled to appear in the 1896 Games, however was cancelled due to there being too few players to form full teams. The 1900 and 1904 events were decided on a round robin basis with no final. There was no bronze medal play-off in 1972. 11-a-side Handball, played outdoors, was included in the 1936 Olympic programme. The sport re-appeared as a demonstration event in 1952 (winners: Sweden) prior to the re-introduction of the 7-a-side indoor game in 1972.
