The Fédération Sportive Féminine Internationale (FSFI) was formed on 31st October 1921. Following the refusal of the IAAF to add women's events to the programme of the 1924 Olympics the FSFI organised the Women's Olympic Games (attended by 5 nations) in 1922. After protests by the IAAF and IOC the event was retitled the Women's World Games in 1926. The FSFI handed over full control of international women's athletics to the IAAF in 1936. List of medallists courtesy of Huw Davies.
